This articles summarises new major functionality introduced in SnapGene 9.0. For a full summary of all improvements and fixes introduced with SnapGene 9.0 see the SnapGene release notes.
SnapGene 9.0 is currently available as a beta release. If you want to try the SnapGene 9.0 beta then see Try a SnapGene Beta Release.
Primer Database
In SnapGene 9.0 we introduce a new Primer database for storage and management of all of your primers:
- Import primers from delimited files, DNA files, and other common formats to create a primer database
- Add labels to primers to organise and filter your primers as sets
- Use your primer database to annotate primers onto your DNA files
For more information see Add Primers to the Primer Database and Use the Primer Database.
CRISPR Site Design
In SnapGene 9.0 we introduce a new tool for finding CRISPR sites:
- Find and display CRISPR sites on your DNA sequences ,for sequences up to 5 kb, using common CRISPR enzymes
- Score the guides via our secure cloud server
- Import CRISPR sites from CRISPOR
- Copy guide sequences from SnapGene for ordering
For more information see Find CRISPR Sites on a Sequence and Accessing CRISPR Cloud Scoring.
Improved Import of Multisequence Files
Import of multi-sequence fasta, GenBank/EMBL and Geneious Prime format files is now more consistent, with a new import workflow. File contents are shown in a table view to give a clear summary of a files contents. Some or all sequences can be selected for import and conversion to SnapGene .dna files. For more details see Import a MultiSequence File into SnapGene.
Improved Project Search
We have improved the reporting of search results and expanded what can be searched.
All supported file types and the new primer database are now searched, and matches in extended metadata are now also reported. To learn more see Searching a Project folder.
Split View
SnapGene is now able to display "side by side" and top and bottom" split views. For more information see View a Sequence with a Split Window.
Rotate a Circular Map View
In SnapGene 9.0 you can now rotate the Map view for circular sequences via menu View → Rotate Map.... To learn more, see Rotate the Map View.
Multifile View
In SnapGene 9.0+ we provide an new combined Map view when multiple files are selected in the side panel. To learn more see Use the MultiFile Info Table.
Machine Access Tokens
Machine Access Tokens are now available for Organisation subscriptions, these allow you to assign a SnapGene license seat to a physical computer instead of a user. To learn more see How to Activate SnapGene with a Machine Access Token.
