Some security software or security policies may prevent the embedded web component of SnapGene from contacting the SnapGene license server and loading the "Activate SnapGene" dialog.
If this happens for you then try the following procedure to activate.
Open the Activation Dialog
Start SnapGene in Viewer mode and click the Activate button.
Hold down the command key (macOS) or CTRL key (Windows or Ubuntu) and close the "Activate SnapGene" dialog. An alternative "Activate SnapGene" dialog will open.
Option 1: Activate with Email Sign In
Use this option if you have an Email Sign In license.
Sign In via your Default Web Browser
Choose "Activate with Email" in the alternative "Activate SnapGene" dialog and click OK.
SnapGene will hand off to your default browser application to complete the activation.
In the browser window, enter the email address associated with your SnapGene account and click Continue.
Enter your SnapGene password and click Sign In.
If you are using a SnapGene Organization license that requires activation by Single Sign On, then click "Log In with SSO".
Download and Place the License File
Click the link to download the snapgene-license.lic license file to your computer.
Use the instructions below to move the license file to the specified location.
Windows
In the Windows Taskbar search for %appdata%\SnapGene and hit return to open your local AppData\Roaming\SnapGene folder.
In Windows Explorer move the license file into the Roaming\SnapGene folder.
macOS
Copy the following path: ~/Library/Application Support/SnapGene
In macOS Finder type command-shift-g.
Paste the copied text into the dialog that opens and hit return to open the SnapGene folder in your local Library folder.
In Finder, move the license file into the SnapGene folder.
Ubuntu
Use the Terminal to move the license file to ~\.snapgene. For example, use the command: mv ~/Downloads/snapgene-license.lic ~/.snapgene/.
Restart SnapGene
Exit/Quit and restart SnapGene to start using an activated installation of SnapGene.

Option 2: Activate with a Registration code
Use this option if you have a legacy registration code license key.
Enter your registration code in the field in the alternative "Activate SnapGene" dialog and click OK to activate and start using SnapGene.
