In early April 2026 Addgene implemented the requirement for users to sign up and log in to their web site in order to download sequence files. See this Addgene article Are there any requirements for viewing plasmid sequence data on the Addgene website?
This change currently prevents direct importing of Addgene sequences from within SnapGene via File → Import → Addgene plasmids.
Our team are working with AddGene to determine if direct access can be restored.
Until further notice, to import Addgene files into SnapGene users will need to visit https://www.addgene.org/browse/ and then:
- Sign up for a free Addgene login account and log in.
- Find a sequence of interest on the Addgene web site.
- Download the Snapgene .dna file corresponding to the sequence.
- Open the .dna sequence file in SnapGene.
