How do I translate a coding sequence (CDS) feature or open reading frame (ORF) to a protein sequence?
Translate a CDS Feature
Open a DNA file with a Translated Feature (CDS). In Map view, click on the Feature to select the open reading frame (ORF) defined by the feature.
Click menu Actions → Make Protein....
Name the protein file.
Optional: Check "Merge segments" to create a protein with a single segment CDS annotation.
Click Make Protein to create the new protein File.
Save the protein sequence file to an appropriate location on your computer.
Translate a Predicted ORF
Shows ORFs and Set the Genetic Code for Translation
In this example we translate a predicted ORF generated due to an in-frame fusion of separate PMA1 and eGFP CDS features.
Open a DNA file, toggle the "Show Translations" button in the Side Toolbar to display predicted ORFs.
Right-click on the "Show Translations" button and choose Translation Options.
Use the drop down to set the appropriate Genetic code for translation of predicted ORFs.
Adjust the length and start codon requirements for predicted ORFs if required. Click OK.
Click on a predicted ORF to select the region for translation.
Translate the Selected ORF
Click Actions → Make Protein....
Name the new protein file, then click Make Protein to create a new protein File.
Edit the translated feature if desired to add segment information.
Save the new protein file to an appropriate location on your computer.
