After purchasing SnapGene, how do I download, install and activate the software?
View the Purchase Email and Sign into Your SnapGene Account

When you purchase SnapGene you will receive an confirmation email. Click on the "My Account" link to login to your SnapGene account or go to https://snapgene.com/auth/login.

Enter the account email and password used when you set up and purchased your SnapGene license, then click Sign In.
Download, Install and Activate SnapGene
Expand the appropriate section below for instructions for your license type.
For SnapGene licenses purchased on or after November 12, 2024, use the email and password for your SnapGene Account to activate SnapGene 8.0 or later.
If you have a registration key, see the instructions in the section below - Activate SnapGene with a Registration Key.
Download SnapGene

Once you have logged into your SnapGene account, view the Dashboard tab.
Click the appropriate download link to download a SnapGene installer for your operating system.
Install SnapGene
Windows: Run the installer executable to install SnapGene.
macOS: The macOS installer is an Apple Disk Image file (.dmg). In Finder, open the disk image and drag the SnapGene application to your Applications folder.
Linux:
Install on Ubuntu via the Terminal using the .deb file, using:
sudo apt install /path\ to\ installer
Install on CentOS/Fedora/Redhat via the Terminal using the the .rpm file, using:
sudo yum install /path\ to\ installer
For example, to install Snapgene 8.0.0 on Ubuntu, cd to the location of the downloaded installer and use:
sudo apt install ./snapgene_8.0.0_linux.deb
alternatively, use:
sudo dpkg -i snapgene_8.0.0_linux.deb
In CentOS/Redhat, cd to the location of the downloaded installer and use:
sudo yum install ./snapgene_8.0.0_linux.rpm
Activate SnapGene on Windows and macOS

Run SnapGene and click the Email Sign In button.
If SnapGene Starts in "Viewer Mode", click the Activate button on the bottom banner to open the "Activate SnapGene" dialog.
Sign in with your SnapGene account email address followed by your password to activate and start using SnapGene.
Activate SnapGene 8.1 or Later on Ubuntu Linux
You must use SnapGene 8.1 or later to activate Ubuntu Linux via Email Sign-In.
SnapGene 8.1 or later is not supported on CentOS/Redhat - see What are the System & Hardware Requirements for SnapGene?
Start SnapGene, select the option "Activate with Email" then click OK.

SnapGene will hand off to your default web browser application.
Enter your SnapGene MyAccount email, then click Continue. On the next page, enter your MyAccount password and click Continue.

Once you have successfully signed in then a license file will be generated for download.
Click the link to download the snapgene-license.lic
file to your Downloads folder.
Quit/Exit SnapGene then move the snapgene-license.lic
file to the specified location.

To move the snapgene-license.lic
file via the command line, start the Terminal application and run the following command:
mv ~/Downloads/snapgene-license.lic ~/.snapgene/.
Start SnapGene, it should now be activated and all functionality should be available.

Download SnapGene

Once you have logged into your SnapGene account, view the Dashboard tab.
1. Click the appropriate download link to download a SnapGene installer for your operating system.
2. Copy the 24 character alphanumeric registration code.
3. If you have purchased a multi-seat license, copy the link and share it with others who will use the license.

If another member of your organisation purchased SnapGene then contact them for the license registration code or a direct link to download SnapGene.
Run and Activate SnapGene

In SnapGene 8.0 or later, run SnapGene and click the Registration Code button.

In the activation dialog, enter your name, email address and paste in the copied activation code.
Then click OK to start using SnapGene.
