How do I use the SnapGene support tool to clear SnapGene caches and temporary files?
Note, this procedure will not touch your SnapGene data (.dna, .rna. prot etc). It only clears application related data.
The "SnapGene Support" tool is a stand alone application that performs diagnostics and reports for analysis by our development team.
Some issues with SnapGene may be fixed by removal of caches and temporary files. Use the instruction below to clear these files.
Install and Start the SnapGene Support tool
First Quit/Exit SnapGene if it is running.
Then download the latest SnapGene Support executable as a disk image file via this link.
In macOS Finder, locate and open the disk image.
Double click the "SnapGene Support" icon to start the Support tool.
The application will take a few seconds to start up as it audits the SnapGene installation.
Clear SnapGene
Switch to the SnapGene tab, then click Remove Application Data button.
If you have created custom common features, a primer database (SnapGene 9.0 or later) or custom enzyme sets then you will see a dialog that allows you to back these files up.
Click Show details to see which files are present.
Click Yes to back up the files.
In the file picker, choose an appropriate location to save the files and click Open.
Click OK to proceed with removal of SnapGene Application data and backup of custom files.
Custom files will be saved in the nominated location in a folder called "SnapGene application data".
Start SnapGene and reactivate with your license details. This will create a new SnapGene folder in your local library.
Exit SnapGene.
Restore the Custom Files
In the Finder type command-shift-g, in the dialog that opens, set the path to:
~/Library/Application Support/SnapGene
then hit Enter to open your hidden SnapGene folder.
Move or copy the backed-up application data files and folder into the Library SnapGene folder.
Start Using SnapGene
You will now have a clean install of SnapGene, with your custom data files restored.
