How do I import a multisequence fasta, GenBank/EMBL or Geneious Prime file into SnapGene 9.0 or later?
If Geneious Prime files contain non-sequence file types (e.g. alignment files), then these will be skipped.
Open the Multisequence File
Open the multisequence file by one of the following methods:
- Click menu File → Open and choose select the file.
- Click the Open File button in the Project side panel (not shown).
- Click the Open button in the top toolbar.
- Drag and drop the file into a Project folder in the side panel.
- If adding to a Project folder, in the dialog that opens, check the box if you want to "Delete original file" on import, then click Add file.
Choose Import Settings
In the dialog that opens:
- Use the check boxes to set to "Import existing features" (if present) and "Detect Common Features".
- Click the top check box to select all sequences, or:
- Select individual sequences.
- If required, use the dropdowns to change molecule type (DNA or RNA), Topology (circular or linear) and strandedness (single or double) for the selected sequences.
- Click the Convert button to import the selected sequences.
- If you wish to import and converted directly to an alignment then click Align All Sequences to open the appropriate Alignment tool.
If no Project folder is open the SnapGene will ask where you want to import the new sequences. Imported sequences will be saved in a new folder.
If a Project folder is open then SnapGene will import the sequences to a new subfolder in the project folder.
View the Newly Imported Files
The imported files will be imported and displayed in the side panel.
