How do I search for an restriction enzyme site, feature, or primer by name?
Show the Find Controls
Open the DNA file to search.
To show or hide the Find controls, click the Find button in the bottom left corner of Map or Sequence view, then choose "Find Enzyme/Feature/Primer" via the drop down menu.
Alternatively, click menu Edit → Find → Find Enzyme/Feature/Primer.
Enter the Search Term and Search
- Enter the name of the enzyme, feature or primer you wish to search for in the search field, then click Next.
- If one or more matches are found then the number will be reported in the bar.
- Use the Previous/Next buttons to step between multiple matches.
- Matches will be highlighted on the Map or Sequence view. See more details below.
- Information about the current selected "match" is shown in the bottom bar.
- To add a symbol to the query, click the "Insert symbol" button, then select the symbol.
Note, search queries are not case sensitive.
Search will not find enzymes if they are not in the selected enzyme set. See the following articles to learn how to choose what enzymes to display, Choose an Enzyme Set and Choose Enzymes Manually.
Search will not find individual restriction sites, features or primers if they have been hidden. See the following articles to learn how to show and hide the different annotation types: Show or Hide Individual Enzymes, Show or Hide Feature Details in Features View and Show or Hide Primer Details in Primers View.
See the Match in Map View
In Map view, a matching enzyme, feature, or primer will be highlighted in blue.
See the Match in Sequence View
In Sequence view, a matching enzyme, feature, or primer will be selected and highlighted in blue.
Search for Feature Metadata
To search for specific types of Features, or for keywords within qualifiers on Features, switch to Features view and use the "Find Features" field.
- Enter the term you wish to search for and press Next.
- The number of matches will be shown.
- Features containing a match will be expanded if required so that matches are shown. Matches will be highlighted yellow.
